I Blog therefore I Am!

I Blog therefore I Am.

It seems an appropriate title for the first blog post I have ever written. Something new in my life and something with unexplored possibilities. I have wondered before about starting my own blog and using this medium to segue into other writing adventures. Maybe this will lead in that direction, maybe it won't. I suppose that the big question posed to me by the blank white screen in front of me must be addressed first. "What will you write about?"
I will write about the things that are important to me. The moon is shining through my window tonight, and it draws my mind outside where i am thinking of my garden and the seeds I have planted there. Yes it is high summer, but the planting time for all harvests is upon us. I am waiting anxiously for my chickpeas to sprout. I planted them at night under the light of the quarter moon. (waxing or waning I don't know) It seemed exciting to be out at night with my hands in the soil and smelling the fresh summer air. My neighbors might think that I'm nuts, but sometimes it is the only time I can get to the garden! I planted a whole row of beets, which I know that my wife will hate and refuse to eat or cook. I have Arugula seeds in the ground because I discovered that plant this spring and I think that it looks so different from anything I have grown in the past. There are new beginnings all around. My son is a month old now and is really beginning to express his own personality. I wonder about going back to school this fall and I think about the things that fall will bring. Fresh corn from my garden, which I have promised to share with my ex-coworkers. More tilling and mulching. I think maybe I will try and build some cold frames or miniature green houses to let me garden longer into the winter.
I guess this blog is about planting seeds and starting something new. There is potential in the air, which as I have often heard is about as useful as altitude that is above you. I better start climbing.

Mystery Solved

Ever since Kaylie got her "big girl" toddler bed, Nate and I have frequently found her laying in front of her door when we'd check on her before going to bed.  What could she be doing there?  At the time she was not tall enough to open the door, but she never called out to us or knocked on the door wanted to be let out.

This week, Nate solved the mystery.  Once again, he opened the door before coming to bed and found her blocking the door.  Only this time he noticed the pile of books near her.  Kaylie has been reading books by the light that comes under her door.  We definitely know who's daughter she is.

Just thought I'd share a copy of pictures of our new little guy while I had Internet access at Mom's. Enjoy!

"I'm worried about my grade."

We watched this video last week at a professional development. I'm likely to hear this conversation next week as the end of our trimester approaches. (Warning, this video does have very mild language--less intense that you'd hear in a typical school hallway.)

2011

It's amazing to think that it's 2011 already. Wow! Where did the time go?

Well, there's lots that I would like to post...pictures of the house after a year, pictures from our winter vacation, etc. But I only have a couple minutes left of my prep. period today at school. So, in case you haven't seen the sad video footage or newspaper pictures of Laguna after the flood, here you go. (I took pictures last week of what it looks like a week later, will post soon.)

Paint, FINALLY!!!

So the plan was to paint our bedroom BEFORE we moved in.  Well, that didn't happen.  The new plan is to paint it next week.  Money is set aside, the schedule is free.  We'll see if it actually happens.  (Pictures to follow if it does.)
